The BBC's Middle East editor Jeremy Bowen writes: In his victory speech President Obama told Americans that 10 years of war were ending. But turbulence in the Middle East means that military action, perhaps even new wars, will push back on to his agenda.


The Syrian war is leaking into neighbouring countries. Second term Obama is likely to authorise more support of the Syrian rebels, short of direct US military intervention.

An even bigger decision awaits on Iran. If by next summer the US and its key allies still believe that Iran is developing a nuclear weapon, despite talks and sanctions, President Obama will have to decide whether or not to attack Iran's nuclear sites, or to give Israel a green light to go to war.

America has to build new relations with Arab countries that have elected Islamist political leaders, and to respond if the Arab uprisings continue to spread to its allies in the Gulf. Another crisis between Israel and the Palestinians is overdue. When it comes, Obama will be tempted to revive the push for peace he abandoned in his first term.

Behind every decision will be the knowledge that, despite its huge military power, America's political leverage in the Middle East is in decline. Compliant, reliable, authoritarian allies have been deposed. And a new generation that sees America as an adversary, not a friend, is being empowered.

أخبر الرئيس أوباما فى خطاب النصر الأمريكيين , أن 10 سنوات من الحرب كادت ان تنتهى >>

لكن الاضطراب فى الشرق الأوسط يعنى ان العمل العسكرى وحتى حروب جديدة ربما تحدث وستعترض جدول اعماله ~

وإن حرب سوريا تتجه الى الدول المجاورة >> وفى فترته الرئاسية الثانية >> من المحتمل أن يقوم أوباما بتسليط الضوء على دعم ثوار سوريا وربما سرعة التدخل العسكرى الأمريكى ..

وبحلول الصيف القادم فإن قرار أكبر ينتظر إيران .. حيث أن أمريكا وحلفائها الرئيسيين ما زالوا يعتقدون ان إيران تطور سلاح نووى ..

وبرغم المحادثات والعقوبات على إيران فإن الرئيس أوباما لا بد أن يقرر إذا كان سيهاجم المواقع النووية الإيرانية أو لا ؟؟

او إعطاء الضوء الأخضر لإسرائيل للشروع فى الحرب ..

ولا بد على أمريكا أن تنشئى علاقات جديدة مع البلدان العربية التى انتخبت القادة السياسين ذوى الطابع الإسلامى وأن ( تنتظر / تستجيب / تأخذ ردة فعل ) لو أن الانتفاضات أو الثورات العربية استمرت بالانتقال الى حلفائها فى الخليج .

وأن ازمة جديد بين إسرائيل والفلسطنيين وشيكة / متأخرة .. عندما تحدث فإن أوباما سوف يميل لإحياء حالة السلام التى تركها فى فترته الرئاسية الأولى ..

وخلف كل قرار .. سيكون من المعروف أنه بالرغم من القوة العسكرية الضخمة لأمريكا .. فإن النفوذ السياسى لها فى الشرق الأوسط فى حالة تراجع كبيرة ..

ولقد تم الإطاحة بحلفائها المفوضون فى المنطقة الجديرون بالثقة والموالين لها ونشأ جيل جديد يرى أمريكا عدوا وليس صديقا وهذا الجيل فى مرحلة التمكين .. ~

Muslim clerics say superstorm Sandy is God's punishment for film that mocked Prophet Mohammad

A group of Muslim clerics have joined some Christian preachers in blaming the superstorm which has devastated areas of America, Haiti and Cuba on the wrath of God.

Anti-American Muslim clerics said Sandy was a divine punishment for a film which mocks the Prophet Mohammad or for other perceived ills of American society. The film caused widespread protest in September as some Muslims demanded its removal from websites.

"Some people wonder about the hurricane in America and its causes," Egyptian hardline cleric Wagdi Ghoneim wrote in two messages on Twitter this week in the aftermath of the storm. "In my opinion, it is revenge from God for the beloved prophet," he added, alluding to the film, Reuters reported.

And, in Saudi Arabia, the cleric Salman al-Audah said the storm, which has killed more than 140 people and rising, was a wake-up call for Americans to convert to Islam.

But the clerics' remarks attracted criticism from other Muslims, who said it was wrong to relish the suffering of others. "God, shake the earth under their feet," read one comment, which prompted the response: "We have brothers and friends in America - I don't wish them any harm."

While Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Abdel Aziz Al Sheik warned that rejoicing over the plight of the suffering runs contrary to Islam, adding that Muslims were among the victims. "It is not legitimate and it is not proper," he told pan-Arab Al-Hayat daily yesterday.

A Twitter response to Ghoneim, however, compared Sandy to a divine wind sent to destroy a sinful nation and strike at the seat of the United Nations in New York. "We ask God to destroy the UN building for its injustice, corruption, tyranny ... with Sandy," Reuters reported.

Others retorted: "This hashtag doesn't represent Muslims but represents a terrorist. We all ask God to help and save Americans."

In Iran, prominent clerics often avoid drawing parallels between natural disasters and divine intervention because their own country has faced devastating earthquakes, such as one in 2003 that killed 26,000 when it hit the ancient city of Bam.

On Wednesday, the Iranian Red Crescent said aid workers were ready to fly to New York to help with recovery efforts, the semiofficial Fars news agency reported. Mahmud Mozaffar, head of Red Crescent's rescue operations, said the Iranian groups had "ample experience" in dealing with natural catastrophes.
